AIDS VACCINE RESEARCH LABORATORYDavid Watkins, P.I. |
The AIDS Vaccine Research Laboratory headed by Dr. David Watkins, professor of pathology, opened its doors on September 16, 2005. The AVRL is housed in a newly rennovated building and is made up of several different cores. Each core is designed to facilitate new discoveries in the search for an AIDS vaccine.
This laboratory occupies 20,000 square feet of new lab space. This facility has two FACS Caliber machines and a Moflo sorter and will be purchasing a new BD LSR II analyzer in the next two months. Other major equipment includes: 22 laminar flow biosafety cabinets, 4 Sorvall centrifuges, ABI 3730 and ABI 377 automated sequencers and a MegaBace1000, 2 Roche light cyclers, 2 Pharmacia FPLC machines. We have liquid nitrogen storage capacity for 70,000 vials.
