AIDS VACCINE RESEARCH LABORATORYDavid Watkins, P.I. |
In order to have your animals typed, there are three steps.
First, contact the MHC typing core (contact info below) to discuss the number of animals to be typed and which tests will be performed, as well as the types of samples available to complete the typing. We will then issue a quote for the genotyping request that will be needed to set up an account with the University of Wisconsin, Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine.

Second, you will need to set up an account with the University of Wisconsin, Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine. Instructions for setting up an account are as follows (please provide this information to your Purchasing Agent/Contact):

| Cindy Blewett UW Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine 6153 MSC 1300 University Avenue Madison, WI 53706-1532 Phone: (608) 265-8573 Fax: (608) 265-3301 Email: AcctsRec@pathology.wisc.edu |
A purchase order, written in U.S. funds, should be issued to: The University of Wisconsin Dept of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine. The order should include address information for submission of invoices, as well as the name, e-mail address, and phone number of the individual who should be contacted with the new account information. The official vendor copy of the purchase order must be sent to the Dept of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, Attn: Accounts Receivable/Cindy Blewett (see box above).
Generally it is recommended that the purchase order be a blanket or running order, which is valid for a specified period of time. This is due to the fact that a new purchase order will need to be generated if additional services are required after a valid purchase order ends or funds are exhausted.
After the purchase order is received, reviewed, and accepted, a UW account # will be issued. The contact person specified on the order will then be notified with the new account information.
The UW account # and PO# must be included when submitting any samples or requests for service. It is the responsibility of the account holder to ensure that no services are requested which will exceed any of the limits in place on their purchase order. In the event that services requested exceed PO limits, data will be held at the lab until the account has appropriate funds.
Please note: Payment is due upon receipt of invoice. Checks must be payable in U.S. funds, drawn on a U.S. bank and issued to The University of Wisconsin Dept of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine. The University of Wisconsin's Tax Identification number is: 39-1805963.
To receive proper credit to your account, please mail the check with a copy of the invoice to the following address:

If the purchase order system is not amenable to your institution, please contact Gretta Borchardt regarding credit card charges for genotyping services
Third, now we are ready to receive your samples.
Preferred sample type(s) (in order of preference for optimal typing results):
1) Blood samples - 2 mL EDTA anticoagulated blood
2) Frozen cells - 2 x 106 nucleated cells, usually in the form of: 2 x 106/1 ml BLCL or 2 x 106/200 ul PBMC
3) DNA - 100uL @ 25ug/mL.
Note: Our PCR method has been optimized for DNA extracted with the Roche MagnaPure system. We achieve optimal typing results from blood or cells extracted on this system and discourage clients from shipping DNA samples extracted by other methods.
Samples should be shipped either on wet ice packs (for blood or DNA) or on dry ice (for frozen cells). FAX (608-265-8084) or e-mail (gborchardt@wisc.edu) the Sample Delivery Form when you send the samples. Please also include a copy of the Sample Delivery Form with your shipment.
When your samples are received, we will let you know they have arrived and they will be put in the queue for typing. Our turnaround time is currently about one month, due to the large number of samples that are being typed at any given time. If you would like sequencing confirmation, we will send out a preliminary report containing the PCR-SSP typing, with an estimate of when your sequencing will be finished. Once the sequencing is finished, we will send you a final report.
