Radioiodinations

In-house iodinated trace accounted for 35% of all determinations performed in 2002 in the Assay Services Unit. The purified antigen used in these radioiodinations is obtained from the National Hormone and Pituitary Program (NHPP) at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, California. Several iodinations can be done from a single monthly shipment of Na-I125 resulting in a minimal cost/tube ($ 0.35) for the I125 tracer portion of our in-house radioimmunoassays. Currently we are using the Chloramin-T, Lactoperoxidase and IODO-GEN© methods. Each iodination has it's own record page showing methods, reagents, times, dates, specific activity and separation profile. All technicians are required to take a four hour "Radiation Safety Training Course" offered by the Safety Department here at the University of Wisconsin - Madison.
